At Suburban Autoworks, we are experts in properly assessing any tire problems and replacing them on your vehicle when necessary. Our mechanics have years of experience in performing tire balancing, rotation and changes. Although, we do recommend that you also check your tires on a regular basis to avoid any unnecessary problems or damage.
Check your tire inflation once a month- Under-inflated tires can lead to increased fuel consumption and can reduce the amount of control you have over your car, leading to possible accidents. When your tires are under-inflated, you will notice wear on both edges of your tires. You should add more air to your tires and make sure there aren’t any leaks. Overinflated tires can “blow out” more easily, wear out faster and make the car unstable and unsafe to handle. If your tires are overinflated, there will be noticeable wear on the center treads. Make sure to let some air out, and go by your manufacturer’s air pressure specifications.
Inspect your tread wear regularly, especially after long trips- If you notice that your tires only have one-sided wear or a “saw-tooth” wear pattern, it means your vehicle is in poor alignment and you need to make an appointment to have your wheels aligned. If your tires have treads that are worn unevenly with bald spots, cups or scallops, your wheels need to be balanced and aligned. If uneven wear occurs, bring your vehicle in to Suburban Autoworks for a complete inspection and we will replace the worn tires if necessary.
Look for things stuck in each of your tires- Many times, tires can pick up debris from the road like nails, glass or stones. If you notice anything in your tire, you should remove it, but be careful when doing so. If you hear a hissing sound when you try to remove a piece of debris, push it back in and bring the tire into Suburban Autoworks to be fixed. If you are unsure if a stuck piece of debris caused a leak in your tire, check your air pressure and then check it again the next day to see whether it is lower. If you notice there is a leak, contact us to schedule an appointment to have your tire professionally patched.
Pay attention to leaks- Other than stuck debris, tire leaks can be caused by additional culprits. If you notice a continuing loss of air, schedule an appointment with Suburban Autoworks to see what the source of the leak is. Many times a tire leak is caused by an ill-fitting rim or a faulty tire valve. In the process of replacing tire valves, you end up losing more air so it’s best to have one of our mechanics take care of this for you.
It’s very important to schedule an appointment with Suburban Autoworks every 5,000 miles to have your tires rotated and checked for any routine problems. It may be convenient for you to schedule your routine oil change along with your tire rotation. Contact us today with any of your tire questions or concerns!
